Job Vacancy – wills and lasting powers of attorney (Now filled)

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic private client lawyer or paralegal to be responsible for the day to day management of wills and lasting powers of attorney to include supervision of other fee earners. The position may also suit someone with relevant experience in the banking sector.

You will be working alongside the existing private client team which has a strong following with probates, estate administrations, contentious probate matters and the Court of Protection.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking instructions and drafting wills (including property trust and discretionary trust)
  • Maintaining the wills database
  • Preparing lasting powers of attorney
  • Acting as certificate provider
  • Preparing attendance notes
  • Attending clients* in hospital, at home and in care homes (*subject to COVID-19 restrictions)
  • Remote instructions by telephone or video conference
  • Using Arken online will software

The role requires experience with elderly and vulnerable clients and the ability to deal with referrals from the commercial department for high net worth individuals. You should have the necessary experience of taking responsibility for your own matters, ability to work calmly under pressure and deadlines and the ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with clients and other fee earners.

Training will be provided for the online will software and the firms case management system Partner 4 Windows.

This is a part time position of 28 hours per week with flexibility for home working although the majority of the time will be spent in the office due to the need to supervise other staff. A laptop will be provided for home working.

Rutherfords LLP has a strong commercial and private client practice based in modern offices at Ventura House at Ventura Park in Tamworth. We have a large will bank and have close links with local charities. The private client department is an appointed firm for the St Giles Hospice annual `make a will` campaign and panel solicitors for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity for the South Staffordshire area. The candidate would be expected to help these fund- raising initiatives which will include some pro bono work.
