'Make Your Will Fortnight' raises thousands for St Giles Hospice

Earlier this year St Giles Hospice teamed up with a host of solicitors in Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall and Burton to offer those living in the local area the chance to make or update their will while supporting the leading local charity. For residents in Tamworth, Rutherfords LLP were on hand to provide assistance. In doing so, the firm has raised an incredible £2,300 for the hospice.

The ‘Make Your Will Fortnight’ campaign ran from 3rd to 14th October 2016, during which time members of the Private Client Team generously donated their time and expertise in order to help raise funds for the hospice. Rutherfords LLP waived their standard fees for their will writing services in exchange for a donation to St Giles, which provides high-quality care for patients living with cancer or other serious illnesses.

Abi Mills (In Memoriam & Legacy Manager) at St Giles said "the ‘Make your Will Fortnight’ is a fantastic opportunity for people living locally to St Giles to get their affairs in order, using a professional service for added reassurance, while also supporting a great cause". When drawing up their will, clients have the option to gift some of their money to the hospice. Abi adds: “A gift in your will, however large or small, is an amazing way to support us and would help to ensure that St Giles Hospice can continue to provide specialist care for local people for years to come".

Partner Tony Illsley added "We are pleased to support such a worthwhile local charity. The 'Make Your Will Fortnight' has proved very popular with our clients. I wish to thank all members of the Private Client Team for their contribution: Sarah, Natasha, Emily and Jayne".

St Giles Hospice is a registered charity offering high-quality specialist care free of charge for people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as providing support for their families and carers. Patients come from across the hospice’s catchment area, which ranges from Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.

Care is offered at the hospice’s centres in Whittington, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall and Uttoxeter or in patients’ own homes across the region. St Giles spends over £9 million a year providing its specialist services and with little more than a third of this funded by the Government, the registered charity relies heavily on donations and income generation from the local community.
