Midlands Air Ambulance

 MAAC

 Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

Solicitor and partner Tony Illsley recently attended the Tatenhill Airbase near Burton Upon Trent which is one of the three airbases used by the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC).

The MAAC provides Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) covering the six counties of Staffordshire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire.

The MAAC operates three Eurocopter EC 135 helicopters from airbases in Tatenhill, RAF Cosford and M5 Strensham and can reach 90 % of the region within 8 minutes flying time. This helps patients reach hospital within 60 minutes (which dramatically increases the chances of survival) known as the `Golden Hour`.

Each helicopter has a crew of three consisting of a pilot and two paramedics.  With approximately 2,000 annual missions at an average cost of £2,500 per flight, there is a need to raise funds to cover the £7 million operational cost. You might be surprised to know that the MAAC does not receive any NHS, Government or National Lottery funding.

Rutherfords LLP are one of eight approved panel solicitors appointed by the MAAC taking part in the free will writing scheme. Do you support the MAAC and would like to leave a legacy or a share of residue in your will? If you are at least 55 years old, you could be eligible for a free will.

About 40% of the MAAC annual budget comes from legacies in wills.
